Physicians

James Cuthbertson, MD

Dr. Cuthbertson joined Berkeley Pediatrics in 1977. He was born and raised in southern San Mateo County and went East to Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. He came back home for medical school and Pediatric specialty training at Stanford University -- but has since become a Cal Bears fan. In his off time he likes to run, hike, bike, and, in the winter, ski. He has two adult children, a daughter and a son, and lives in the East Bay.

Olivia Lang, MD

Olivia Lang joined Berkeley Pediatrics in the summer of 1999. She completed her undergraduate education in Human Biology at Stanford University. Dr. Lang then moved to Berkeley where she was in the UC Berkeley-UCSF Joint Medical Program where she obtained a Masters in Health and Medical Sciences from UC Berkeley. She received her M.D. and pediatric residency training from UCSF. Some of her outside interests include photography, knitting, cooking, hiking and bargain hunting. Dr. Lang lives with her husband and three daughters (including twin daughters born in 2001) in the East Bay. Dr. Lang is fluent in Mandarin.

Annemary Franks, M.D.

Annemary Franks joined Berkeley Pediatrics in 1993. She was born and raised in nearby Santa Cruz. She received her B.A. from Santa Clara University and then an M.D. from Creighton University Medical School in Omaha. She returned to California for Pediatric Residency at UC Davis in Sacramento. Annemary and her partner have three daughters. In her free time she enjoys travel, theater, photography and gardening.

Lisa S. Kalar, MD

Dr. Lisa Kalar is an East Bay Native, and completed her medical degree and pediatric residency at UC San Francisco. Prior to becoming a physician, Lisa was Peace Corps volunteer in Mali, Wast Africa, where she worked in maternal and child health care (and met her husband, a fellow volunteer). She has also worked in a Costa Rican health clinic and studied Spanish in Central America. Prior to joining Berkeley Pediatrics, Lisa enjoyed working in the Alta Bates Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She lives in Berkeley with her husband and daughter. Lisa’s interests include support for breast-feeding families, natural disaster preparedness, and community development issues.

Elaine Davenport, MD

Elaine Evans Davenport joined Berkeley Pediatrics in 1996. She grew up in Portland, Oregon and then went south to Pitzer College where she graduated with a B.A. in History. She attended Hahnemann University for medical school and then completed her pediatric residency training and Chief residency at UCDavis Medical Center. She lives in the East Bay with her husband and two children. In her free time she enjoys biking, tennis, hiking and reading history.

Benjamin King, MD

Benjamin King joined Berkeley Pediatrics in Summer 2003. He grew up in Berkeley, went Back East to the University of Pennsylvania for undergraduate, attended University of California, Davis for medical school, and completed a pediatrics residency at Stanford Hospital. Dr King is married, lives in Berkeley, and has twin boys born in 2004. He enjoys windsurfing, biking, and running after his kids. He likes to cook, and is crazy enough to home roast his own java. Dr. King is near fluent in Spanish.
