Sick Visits & After Hours

Getting Medical Advice:

For life-threatening emergencies, dial 911 to contact your local EMS service!

Check our Health Information page for some of the online resources we recommend. We have an interactive menu system available which you may find helpful in triaging the urgency of your child's condition.

During Normal Business Hours: Routine or less urgent health concerns should be directed to your physician during regular business hours. We will contact you about your concern as soon as possible. If you think your child needs an appoinment, urgently, please call the office. Children are seen by appointment only. Be sure to make separate appointment times for each sibling who is to be seen, this way, we can allow plenty of time for each patient. We are happy to provide same day appointments for urgent medical problems.

After Hours: If your child has an urgent medical need that cannot wait for regular office hours, call (510) 486-8344 to speak with an advice nurse.

Please remember that the advice line is for urgent after hours medical care only. Please contact your physician during normal business hours.

Urgent Care Visits After Hours:

Berkeley Pediatrics does provide urgent care visits on Saturday mornings, for urgent sick visits only, not well checks. The single On-Call MD will see patients with serious medical concerns during those hours. Please call the office earlier in the day if you need an urgent visit.

After Hours: If your child has an urgent medical need that cannot wait for regular office hours, call (510) 486-8344 to speak with an advice nurse.

The advice nurse will discuss and manage your child's care.  If the nurse feels your issue is too serious for phone triage you may be directed to the  Pediatric After Hours Clinic, PAHC. The phone hours are 5pm-7am Monday through Friday, 24 hours on the weekend and selected holidays. If your child is seen in the clinic or gets phone advice, information will be faxed to our office the next day. Monday - Friday between 7am & 8:30am please call our main number, 848-2566, for medical advice.

One of our doctors is on call at all times. 911 should be used for life-threatening emergenices. If there is an emergency or your child has a complicated problem, the on-call doctor can be reached through the advice nurse at the Pediatric After Hours Clinic, PAHC.

For emergency care, the emergency room at Children's Hospital, Oakland is excellent. As the waits can be long, only go the the Emergency Room for urgent conditions.
