As a pediatric practice, we believe caring for children also means caring for the communities they grow up in. In that spirit, we stand in support of the National Shutdown on January 30, 2026. While our office will remain open to provide essential healthcare services to our patients and families, we are joining this day of collective action in meaningful ways as a practice. Our commitment is to continue showing up for children’s health while also standing with our community and the values of care, responsibility, and solidarity.

Pathogens have not changed, only "policies".    Berkeley Pediatrics does not anticipate any changes to our vaccine schedule or to the availability of vaccines to our patients. We stand by the American Academy of Pediatrics published vaccine schedule which is also supported by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the West Coast Health Alliance (WCHA).

Promoting Mental Well-being in Kids

Your child’s mental health is just as important as their physical health. It is extremely important that you’re nurturing your child’s mental health and giving them a safe space to process their emotions and any issues that they may be struggling with. There are steps you can take to help encourage your child to share and improve their mental health in the long run.

It’s also important that you work with your child’s pediatrician to figure out if there are any conditions that may be affecting your child’s mental health. This way, your child can get the care and treatment that they need to live a happy and healthy life.

Nurturing Your Child’s Mental Well-Being

The CDC estimates that 1 in 5 children in the US experience a mental health disorder. The most common disorders are anxiety, ADHD, behavioral disorders, and depression. It’s important that you create an environment that helps to boost your child’s mental well-being and gives them a space where they feel safe enough to express the emotions and concerns they might have.

It’s important that you pay attention to any signs your child might display pertaining to mental health disorders. There could be subtle changes in their actions and how they speak about specific things. When you pay close attention to your child’s behavior, they also feel a sense of security and comfort and may feel better about sharing with you.

Creating routines that your child can follow each day can also help with certain mental disorders. This can help your child keep themselves in balance and give them a chance to check in when they are dealing with intense emotions. When you notice that your child is struggling, it’s important that you don’t hesitate to bring them to their pediatrician. You can get the resources needed to ensure that your child has control over their own mental health.
