Berkeley Pediatrics is giving Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to patients 12 years and older by appointment only.  We are anticipating approval of COVID vaccines for children ages 5 to 11 in early November but DO NOT have information yet on if/when we will receive vaccines for administration.  PLEASE DO NOT CALL the office for information.  We will send MyChart messages and post here and on social media as soon as we are scheduling vaccines.

Two fully vaccinated caregivers will be allow to accompany the patient on all visits.  (updated 10/18/2021)

Please contact the office prior to your appointment if you or your child has ANY of the following symptoms:   runny nose, congestion, sore throat, fever, cough, shortness of breath, vomiting or diarrhea, or loss of taste or smell.  We may not be able to see your child in person and may need to reschedule.

If you have travelled out of state or by plane in the last 10 days OR is if you have been exposed to an individual with COVID within the last 14 days, your visit will need to changed to a virtual visit or rescheduled.

COVID vaccines for Children

Children/teens 12 and older:  Pfizer vaccines is currently approved under EUA by the FDA for administration to all children/teens 12 years old and older.  We at Berkeley Pediatrics agree with recommendations by the CDC and the AAP that children 12 and up should receive this vaccination as soon as possible.  We are currently administering COVID vaccines to children 12 and older by appointment only at Berkeley Pediatrics.  We are making every effort to group scheduled appointments as this reduces the amount of unused doses per vial.  Thanks for your patience as we try to make sure your child gets the best care while also supporting greater community and public health goals.

Children ages 5 to 11:  We anticipate that a pediatric formulation of the Pfizer mRNA COVID vaccine will be approved for EUA by the FDA in late October/early November.   Currently, we do not have information on when or how we will be receiving this vaccine for administration at our office.

The initial FDA review of the EUA application is expected to occur on 10/26/21. Once the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) meets on 11/2/21 and 11/3/21, the CDC may authorize distribution and administration of the vaccine for this age group soon thereafter. Given that this is a new pediatric formulation of the vaccine, time will be needed for distribution as we cannot just use the current 12+ formulation of Pfizer vaccine.

We know many parents (including some of our own providers!) are anxiously awaiting vaccine approval for this age group, and we share your excitement that this may be possible soon.   Berkeley Pediatrics has been hard at work planning for a fast and safe vaccination plan for when we receive the vaccine.   Please DO NOT INUNDATE our office phones--information will be posted on this website and social media as soon as we have it and MyChart message will be sent to our eligible families.

Thanks for your patience!
